THE BEGINNERS GUIDE TO BROWS

Have you every wondered how to get fabulous looking brows in no time? You aren't quite sure how to do it or where to start? Well, back in the day I never filled in my brows and plucking them was about as good as it got. Part of the reason why was because I had no clue how to do them or where to even start. Once I learned how and started filling in my brows, well lets just say, now i won't go back... I almost feel naked without them done.

There are a lot of reasons why ladies will fill in their brows. One, they may be missing hair... you know, from too much plucking, back when that was a thing. Two, they may have had their brows micro bladed and it didn't turn out like they expected, that would be my thing... So filling in brows can be almost necessary to some. And to others it's just to enhance their brows.

I think one of the most important things to know when it comes to brows is figuring out the shape that is most flattering for your face. Some of the most basic questions people have are: How far do I come in towards my nose? Where does my arch go? How far out do i bring the end of my brow?

I have created a step by step photo guide that shows you how to create some fabulous looking brows. The part that I love is the products that I use. They are long lasting, waterproof & smudge proof so your brows stay put. Don't you worry, I will give you a complete breakdown of the products throughout the tutorial

To shape your brows:

1) Grab an eyebrow pencil of your choice, turn it upside down and align it straight from the corner of your nose to your eyebrow. Wherever the pencil hits your brow is an indicator of where your eyebrow should start. Slightly lift the pencil and make a small mark, for future use.

2) To determine where you arch should be, take the same pencil, turned upside down and align it diagonally so that it starts at the corner of your nose and skims right outside of your pupil. This is where your arch should be. Slightly lift the pencil and make a small mark for future use. When creating your arch keep in mind what type of brow you are going for. If you create too much of an arch you can look constantly mad or surprised. But at the same time sometimes the arch can make you appear as if you had an eye lift. It's all about the illusion and tricks of using cosmetics to your advantage. Stay tuned for a future post about brows for specific eye shapes.

3) To determine where your brow should end, take the same pencil, still turned upside down, start at the outer corner of your nose and place it diagonal and align it to the outer corner of your eye.Where the pencil meets your brow is where your brow will end. Slightly lift the pencil and make a small mark, for future use. This is also a very important step because if you bring the end of your brow down too far then it can make your eyes appear droopy and not as open.

4) Now that we have all the marks made we are now going to play connect the dots with the pencil. You will follow the outline of your brow and connect the dots. Starting with above the brow and then move below the brow and follow the natural hair line. This will now give you a basic guideline to follow when you are filling in your brows.

5) Now that we have our guidelines down it is time to fill in your brows. I like to use a product that is called ShadowSense to fill in my brows. It is a cream to powder eyeshadow, yes you read that right, its an eyeshadow. It's my favorite because it is long lasting, waterproof, smudge proof & it is very easy to get a color that will match your brows. Moca Java is a great color for blondes, strawberry blondes or those who have light brown hair. Smoked Topaz is a great color for those who have light to medium brown hair. Garnet is great for gingers because it is brown but with a slight red hue. Garnet & Rustic Brown are great for those who have a darker brown to black hair. Onyx is great for those who have dark black hair. You can get your ShadowSense colors here.

6) For the next step you want to have a good eyebrow brush. I usually say that if you can splurge on any brush, this would be the one to splurge on. Sigma has some great ones but I usually like to teach and suggest some that are very affordable and good quality. I usually go to Real Techniques brushes. So for this tutorial I am using their brow brush set, you can get that here. Now that we have all that figured out it's time to fill in your brows. Start with removing the wand from the tube. I like to take my brush and just slightly run it across the wand, making sure that i'm getting very little on my brush. A little of this goes a very long way and you can always come back for more. You will now start filling in going in upward motions creating a hairlike line and filling in your brow. Now let the ShadowSense dry and set.

7) Once the ShadowSense has set, its time to bust out the spooly. Take the spooly and slightly brush your brows in an upward direction. Once you are done with that if you feel like you need to fill anything in then you will use your pencil to draw in an upward direction.

8) I don't do this next step every day but if you want a very clean and precise line around your brow, you can take a highlighter or a lighter color of ShadowSense, I like the Candlelight shade for this, and carefully place it right below and above the brow. Slightly blend it out with a small flat brush.

I challenge you to give it a try. You never know if you will like it, until you do, If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to ask. You can shoot me an email or use the little chat box to send me a message. Good luck, and heres to some fabulous brows!

XOXO, Crystal
