VALENTINES CANDY TACKLE BOX DIY (FREE PRINTABLE)

Valentines Day has never been too big of a fuss around our house, considering we have 5 holidays within 1 month. My hubby's birthday, my sons birthday, our anniversary, my birthday & of course Valentines Day. We usually don't go out to dinner because I don't like all the craziness that it entails. You know the endless wait to get into a restaurant, the traffic, trying to find babysitters... So, we usually make a fun candlelight dinner with the kids, we started that tradition when they were little, and I have continued on with it as they have gotten older. It is something they most definitely look forward to.

One of our other traditions is I give each of them a book, a small gift & box of chocolates. Years ago I made some cute little-felt envelopes that can be attached to your dining room chair, and we still continue to use them. The night before Valentines Day I fill their little pouch with my gifts to them. It's not much, but they are excited on Valentines Day morning to find them. Throughout the day the felt envelopes continue to be used as you will see little love notes from the kids placed inside. That's one of my favorite parts of Valentines Day.

This year my kids are getting a bit older, and I wanted to switch things up a little. You can guarantee that they are still getting a book, as I always try to encourage my kids to fall in love with reading, As far as everything else goes, I will not be giving them a box of chocolates. Instead, I made them these cute little candy tackle boxes. I made the cutest printables, and I decided to share them with you. You guys, these were about $5 ea. for me to make. So nothing that will break the bank. Keep following along for all the details and list of supplies that you will need.

First, you will want to gather up your supplies. I picked up all my supplies with just two stops, first was a stop at the Dollar Tree & second was a stop at Michaels.

Your Shopping List:

1) Tackle Box or Organizer (I bought mine in the hardware section at the Dollar Tree for $1 ea.)

2) Candy of your choice (also purchased at the Dollar Tree)

3) Glue Dots or Double Sided Tape

4) Ribbon of Choice or a spool of Tulle (I always have a roll of that on hand)

5) Scissors

6) Printable, GET YOUR FREE PRINTABLE HERE

Second, you will want to fill your boxes with the candy that you purchased. If you notice, I have different compartments filled with the same candy.

If you are just doing one box then I would suggest doing it that way, it will eliminate the amount of candy that you have purchased and prevented you from having extra left over.

If you are doing several boxes, then I would suggest purchasing a good assortment of candy so that you can disperse it amongst all of the tackle boxes that you are creating.

If it is for a male, they tend to like Swedish fish, gummy worms, gummy sharks, sour straws, really anything that looks like it would go in a tackle box. Other than that I would suggest putting any type of candy that you choose in them.

Next, you will want to grab the printable that you printed and a pair of scissors or a paper cutter.

I specifically designed this printable so that you would have options. One, you get to choose the design, I created one that's a little more feminine and one that's a little more masculine. But, I also created them so that you have the option of cutting them out or leaving them with the background. You can see in both pictures what it will look like either way. Hopefully, that will help you decide which way you like more.

As I was cutting them out, It was much easier to use a paper cutter to get the straight cuts vs. utilizing a pair of scissors. I did have to use the scissors to cut the background out though. It's not a perfect cut job, but it looks great how it is.

Once you have them cut out, then you will turn them over and place glue dots or double-sided adhesive tape to the back of the paper & then adhere them to the box.

As you get to know me a little better, I'm all about the bling and adding a finishing touch to my projects. So, the next step is adding some ribbon or tulle to your boxes to finish them off.

If this is for a boy, I never tye a bow, if you notice by looking at the picture I just merely tied a knot and cut the ends on the ribbon. This makes it appear more masculine compared to tieing a bow which looks more feminine.

As far as using tulle goes, you just take a piece of tulle and tie it around the box leaving just enough that you can tie it one more time. Next, take the tulle while still on the spool, and zig zag it back and forth in your hand about 6 times, creating 3 loops on each side. The smaller you zig-zag it back and forth, the smaller the bow will be. Once you have done this, cut the tulle from the spool. Pinch the tulle in the middle of the zig zags & place it on the box in the center of the knot. Bring the excess tulle from the first step up and tie it around the zig zags, right down the middle. Now, you can leave the bow like that or you can cut, in between each loop to create an entirely different bow.

I hope you enjoy making and gifting these boxes to the ones you love! Happy Valentines Day!

XOXO, Crystal
